Bernice’s studio serves as a living archive, The variety of subject matter is matched by the diversity of her artistic techniques, which range from delicate copper etchings to expansive, large-scale paintings. Themes include motherhood, composting, the closure of the Nova Scotia fisheries, immigration, horses, nuclear war and the environment.
Recently, Bernice initiated a transformative phase in her artistic journey by setting aside all her previous artwork, symbolically starting anew. In this revitalized environment, she curated a space that is both emotionally charged and poetic. Despite these changes, one motif persists throughout her oeuvre: leaves. This enduring symbol represents the cycle of nature—feeding us through photosynthesis. These botanical prints of the leaves of wild plants are printed in her studio.
