Painting, monotype prints, collagraphs, sculpture
I would like to introduce my approach, or rather my thoughts on my work, with this quote from Pierre Soulages: “It is what I do that teaches me what I am looking for.” I will forever seek to understand why I create.
I show what I see. I paint urgently, as if someone is about to take away my ability to do so. I am naked in front of the paper, canvas, or clay, and I need to feel uncomfortable. Without knowing where it will take me, I feel compelled to stay there, or rather to make it my home and be open to all possibilities. People tell me the result is imbued with gentleness, strength, and sensitivity.
I love getting dirty: my hands touch, slide, wipe, rub, feel… the final outcome is like the finale of an opera. It proclaims, it denounces, but at the same time, a meeting has taken place.
