Artistic bookbinding, cardboard bookbinding, handmade paper
Continuing its journey towards modernity, the bookbinding profession has stood the test of time while retaining its medieval roots. This is evident in the tools used, such as the sewing frame, board shears or small press, and many hand tools, including the paring knife and bone folder.
The beauty of a bound book is the result of some fifty steps, demonstrating both technical mastery and original creativity. A book’s first impression should reflect its atmosphere and content. The design reveals the book’s setting, soul and personality.
The bookbinder is responsible for choosing the leather, fabric, harmony of the paper, strength of colour, shape of the decoration, and any inlaid or mosaic work, embossed or debossed, ensuring that it is executed to a high standard.
I came to this artistic field after several years of training with a master bookbinder and numerous advanced workshops. My membership in AQRAL and ARA has allowed me to participate in exhibitions in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the United States, and Quebec.
In addition to artistic bookbinding (creation), I offer services such as custom bookbinding, restoration of antique books, cardboard bookbinding, and leather binding.
