Experimental photography

A visual artist based in Frelighsburg in the Eastern Townships, Laurence Grandbois Bernard develops a practice at the intersection of staged photography, film set photography in Montreal’s film industry, and experimentation.
Her work explores the porous boundaries between reality and fiction by manipulating gestures, gazes, lighting, and color atmospheres to question the social norms that shape our spaces and interactions. Influenced by her background in sociology, she is interested in memory, intimacy, and the construction of visual narratives.
Her practice thrives on constant movement between fictional worlds and real situations, where each image becomes a space of tension, ambivalence, and contemplation. By bringing together the ordinary and the singular, the strange and the familiar, she offers a nuanced reading of the world, where imagination reshapes reality.
